Every day, the Judenrat had to provide the Germans with a certain number of unpaid workers, to carry out excavation work
and digging, to clean up the streets or for just about anything.
To stimulate these people into action, the Judenrat had convocations distributed to them. Thanks to my good friend,
I was hired along with him as a message boy.
Every morning at eight, I'd come to the Jewish Council's office where I was given a pack of 100 convocations for people living
in 2,3 buildings on the same street.
In general, I finished my work around 12:30/1 p.m. And I must say that it bothered me a lot, that I was really afraid to distribute
these convocations because these people would say that I worked for the Germans;that you got beaten up there,that you didn't know what you were going to do; excavation work, digging, is very hard work. Besides that, you got beaten, and you found yourself outside your usual surroundings, and on top of it all you didn't get paid.
